“IT DOES SELL”
Steele’s recent work for the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design 2026 Degree Show confronts the pervasive visual language of contemporary advertising. Exposing how it reduces women to objects, symbols of desire, and constructed ideals. Drawing on a bold post-pop aesthetic, Steele reimagines familiar consumer products, exaggerating and sexualising their forms.
By transferring objectification from the female body onto the products themselves, the work mirrors and critiques the manipulative strategies embedded within marketing culture. These altered forms act as visual metaphors, highlighting both the absurdity and normalisation of hyper-sexualised imagery shaped by the male gaze.
The Degree Show is open from 23.05.2026 - 31.05.2026, make sure to come along and see the amazing work.
